This is a list of some of the peonies we grow.
 Hardly any of these are for sale.
On September 14 each year we offer a few roots from a handful
of those listed—and at a price-point far above the regular.


ABBESS ROOTHING (Fawkner 2020) seedling 8C-1 (Quitzin x unknown) midseason hybrid; large, smoothly rounded, very red, extremely petal-packed flowers of unusual dahlia-style compactness; sidebuds; upright, shapely bush; named after a village in Essex, south-east England.

AGNES FFYTCH (Fawkner 2013) seedling D-431 (Perihelion F2); early midseason hybrid; semi-double to double flowers presented at an angle; pink-green guards encircle a tightly-packed profusion of light pink petalodes with dark pink flares; fairly narrow leaflets.  

AMARNA (Fawkner 2016) seedling D3-N (Northrepps x Strykylthorne); moderately tall early hybrid; 20 cm semi-double to bomb-style yellow flowers shaded soft pink; no sidebuds; red-pink stigmata on green carpels; plenty of seeds.     

ANADYR (Fawkner 2013) seedling A-51 (Quitzin x Anderson Y-158); early midseason hybrid; double or anemone-style flower-in-flower blossoms; pink guards with silver-green flares; pale pink petalodes with greenish-yellow flares around smaller yellow petalodes edged gold; floriferous; fragrant.    

APPLETON EAU (Fawkner 2019) seedling DD-89 (Appleton House x Quitzin) early midseason hybrid; double blush flowers with embedded pink accents; sidebuds; tall.

APPLETON HOUSE (Fawkner 2011) seedling F-93 (Quitzin x Nilitz) early hybrid; 20 cm double cream flowers; guards washed palest violet; wide, floriferous bush; tall stems with darkly reddish upper parts; sidebuds; seeds.    

BUOY MASTER (Fawkner 2011) seedling F-83 (Perihelion F2); early hybrid; white, single-style flowers; dense mound of sumptuous foliage; large leaflets all the way down; huge seed-pods. 

CELESTIA DOOR (Fawkner 2019) seedling 22-F (Northrepps x Lemon Chiffon); midseason semi-double to double herbaceous hybrid; 15 cm wide, softly pink-and-cream flowers with; 6 cm guards edged cream with green flares; white stigmata on pale green carpels; fairly upright 90 cm stems with pointed, medium to narrow, leaflets; fertile.  

CHARLOTTE RATTENBURY (Fawkner 2011) seedling F-69 (Sumvitg x P. obovata var. willmottiae); early hybrid; semi-double or double flowers in mixed hues of medium pink, silver, dark pink, and cream; large dark pink flares; mauve stigmata on pale green carpels; tall, vigorously floriferous bush; seeds in plenty.    

EAU MERIDIAN (Fawkner 2016) seedling 66-T (Maria Fairfax x Mackinac Grand) early midseason hybrid; fairly large double flowers, dazzling somewhere between luminous dark pink and lustrous red. No sidebuds. Slightly spreading, medium-tall stems with attractive foliage all the way down. Floriferous. Hybrid vigor. Upon emerging from the ground, the bush looks better than almost anything around, and the flowers follow suit with equal symmetry, supremacy, and aesthetic magnificence.

ELIZABETH SWEETING (Fawkner 2010) seedling C-48 (Sumvitg x P. peregrina Fire King); early hybrid; opens a day or two after its pod-parent; semi-double to double flowers in pale pink washed cream and white; dark magenta stigmata on pale green carpels; floriferous; seeds.  

ENVOY (Fawkner 2013) seedling D-411 (Quitzin x P. peregrina); early midseason hybrid;  red, medium-sized single-style flowers; white stigmata on green carpels; yellow filaments shaded light red at base; foliage a lush abundance of narrow, indented leaflets.

ETELCA (Fawkner 2019) seedling DD-82 (Maria Fairfax x Quitzin) early hybrid; semi-double to double blush flowers; pink stigmata on green carpels; excellent foliage all the way down.

FLINTPREW PARSONAGE (Fawkner 2019) seedling R8-D (Triphena Parkin x N-5 [P. peregrina x Hollingsworth #1733]); early midseason semi-double to double herbaceous hybrid; 15 cm medium pink flowers with white accents; cupped, 6 cm, softly speckled, medium pink guards have white flares; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; tallish stems; superior foliage with somewhat rounded leaflets; fertile.    

GREAT NORTHERN (Fawkner 2013) seedling D-433 (Concordia Droysen x Anderson Y-158); early midseason hybrid; large, yellow semi-double to double flowers; white stigmata on pale green carpels; tall, upright, strong stems;  sidebuds; seeds.    

HETEPHERES (Fawkner 2015) seedling A2-C (Northrepps x Strykylthorne); midseason hybrid; large yellow double, petal-packed flowers; medium height.  

KHUIT (Fawkner 2020) seedling 4C-4 (Richard Greenham x Quitzin) early midseason hybrid; semi-double to double cream-white 20 cm flowers; pink stigmata on green carpels; yellow filaments; sidebuds; tall, wide bush with excellent foliage; floriferous.

KIKHPINYCH (Fawkner 2015) seedling X2-J (Northrepps x Grand Massive); early midseason hybrid; semi-double to double pale cream flowers washed pale mauve-pink and silver; lime-and-pink flares; dark pink stigmata on green carpels; fairly tall stems; sidebuds.

MALY SEMYACHIK (Fawkner 2015) seeedling F6-F (Northrepps x Grand Massive); early midseason hybrid; faintly pink semi-double to double flowers veined mauve-silver—soon fading to pale cream-yellow; pale green flares, mauve-pink at base; red stigmata on pale green carpels; medium stems.

MARGARET SUTTERBY (Fawkner 2010) seedling C-88 (seedling 80-K x Crimson Classic); early hybrid; intense, staggeringly mid-pink, single-style flowers; pale green-and-pink filaments; pink stigmata on green carpels; seeds.   

MARIA FAIRFAX (Fawkner 2011) seedling F-95 (Nilitz x P. obovata var. willmottiae); early hybrid; cream-coloured double flowers; guards faintly blush; pink stigmata on pale yellow-green carpels; vigorously-spreading, floriferous bush; seeds.     

MARSHLAND ST. JAMES (Fawkner 2011); seedling F-100 (Nilitz x P. obovata var. willmottiae); ultra-early hybrid; flowers presented at an angle—pale yellow with faintest hint of lime; tropical-looking foliage in lavish tiers of slightly oversized, horizontal leaflets; seeds in plenty.  

MERESANKH (Fawkner 2016) seedling K3-Z (Northrepps x Grand Massive) early hybrid; average height;   double, slightly ruffled flowers of palest yellow; no sidebuds; dark red stigmata on gray-green carpels; plenty of seeds.  

MOROSCHECHNAYA (Fawkner 2019) Seedling DD-99 (Maria Fairfax x Quitzin) early hybrid; semi-double to double 20 cm pale yellow flowers; dark pink stigmata on green carpels; sidebuds; excellent foliage all the way down.

NIKOLAI VAVILOV (Fawkner 2013) seedling D-401 (Quitzin x P. peregrina);  early hybrid; single-style red flowers with white stigmata on pale green carpels; mound of pointed, lush, medium-wide leaflets on upright stems; seeds.   

NORTHREPPS (Fawkner 2010) seedling C-80 (Quitzin x Sunny Boy); early hybrid; large, petal-packed light-yellow semi-double to double flowers with inner peach-cream highlights; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; seeds in plenty; estimable pod-parent.  

OLD SOUTHGATE (Fawkner 2013) seedling A-86  (Concordia Droysen x Anderson Y-158); early midseason hybrid; semi-double to double pale-yellow and apricot-pink flowers; green-and-yellow flares; white stigmata on pale green carpels.

PATIENCE SPOKOYNY (Fawkner 2020) seedling 2C-1 (Richard Greenham x Quitzin) early midseason hybrid; semi-double to double warm pink flowers; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; low, neat bush with excellent foliage all the way down.

PROSPECTOR  (Fawkner 2019) seedling W-131 (Maria Fairfax x Mackinac Grand) early semi-double to double herbaceous hybrid; large (>20 cm) colour-intense crimson flowers; rose-shaped buds, one per stem; rounded crimson guard petals (>7 cm) have white flares, broken edges; cerise stigmata on pale green carpels; fairly upright stems (>80 cm); veined, broadish leaflets.

QUITZIN (Fawkner 2001) seedling MO-111; early mid-season hybrid; massive, significantly scented, bomb-style flowers; cream-buff guards; yellowish flower-centre with green, tropical pink, and apricot-peach depths; stems tall, unattractive, weak; very fast and substantial root-increase; easy propagation; buds sometimes sharply lime-green; flowers not true to size, colour, or form until third or fourth growth-year; healthy, very floriferous plant; pollen possible; superior genotype; proven pod-parent.  

RAINMAKER (Fawkner 2011) seedling N-40; midseason hybrid; medium-sized, double, darkest ruby flowers; pink stigmata on green carpels; peregrina-style foliage; below average height.     

REKHETRE (Fawkner 2015) seedling 4K-6 (Nilitz x Lemon Chiffon); early midseason hybrid; down-slanted semi-double to double flowers of surreal lime-yellow luminosity impossible to capture on camera; lime flares with  hints of pink atop; stems somewhat meandering, reddish, medium height; sidebuds; seeds in plenty.   

RICHARD GREENHAM (Fawkner 2013) seedling V-256 (Quitzin x Nilitz);  early midseason hybrid; large yellow double flowers; central petalodes more vividly yellow than guards; shades of cream and pink at flower-base; pink stigmata on green carpels; slightly reddish stems; seeds; propagates well.

ROBERT DE KELLING (Fawkner 2010) seedling C-44 (Idelette x Liboria Maass); early hybrid; purple-magenta Jap to double flowers; violet-blue flares; magenta staminodes edged gold; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; sidebuds; floriferous; seeds in plenty.  

SAMARITAN WOMAN (Fawkner 2016) seedling 6F-6 (Appleton House x Mackinac Grand); early-midseason hybrid, fairly tall and spreading; large 20 cm wide double flowers of luminous medium pink; no sidebuds; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; if present, filaments are red at base; very floriferous; plenty of seeds.

SIGNALMAN AKHENATEN (Fawkner 2011) seedling V-258 (Embargo x P. peregrina ’Fire King’); early-flowering hybrid; elevated, single-style radiant-red flowers; upright medium bush with with finely-cut leaflets.

SOUTHREPPS (Fawkner 2010) seedling C-46 (Quitzin x S-526); early hybrid; large, yellow double flowers; superabundance of yellow petalodes; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; floriferous; seeds.     

STRYKYLTHORNE (Fawkner 2010) seedling C-41 (Quitzin x Sunny Boy); early midseason hybrid; large, petal-packed yellow double flowers with apricot-cream centre-glow; after a while flowers develop a look of expansively shaggy insouciance; pink stigmata on pale green carpels; slender, tall stems need support.

SUMVITG (Fawkner 2002) seedling RA-55; early hybrid; medium-sized, near-white, anemone-style or double-style flowers flushed faintest violet—fading pure white; pink stigmata on white carpels; stylish foliage; seeds.   

SYCHAR (Fawkner 2016) seedling V8-V (Appleton House x Mackinac Grand) early-midseason hybrid, fairly tall and spreading; 20 cm double flowers of luminous dark pink; no sidebuds; dark pink stigmata on pale green carpels; if present, filaments are yellow, red at base; plenty of seeds.

SWIMSUIT (Fawkner 2013) seedling D-404 (Sumvitg x N-4); early hybrid; medium-sized coral semi-double flowers; splashes of silver and gold on central petalodes; pink stigmata on green carpels; superior foliage; energetic, flashy, floriferous; a favourite.
